Battle between two fallen giants as KKR look to save campaign vs MI

In a clash of two teams who have struggled throughout the tournament, Monday would play host to temporary salvation as the Kolkata Knight Riders lock horns with Mumbai Indians. Both the sides have been in woeful shape and despite the best of attempts to arrest the fall, none of them has actually managed to manifest it.

Kolkata started the tournament on a high and was initially touted as one of the playoffs contenders before the nightmare unfolded. They are one spot clear of the rock-bottom that is currently being held by their imminent counterparts. Despite securing a hard-fought win against the Rajasthan Royals, the Knights would find them at the receiving end of some severe desperation with a humiliating defeat against the Giants.

Mumbai Indians are already out of the play-offs race but with the number of games remaining, they would be eager to pack a powerful punch to cap off the campaign on a decent note.

For the Knights, the tournament practically seems to be over with almost no chance left of making the play-offs.

Venue Watch:

Dr DY Patil has always been a kind host to the batters with an early bout of movement and carry that would trouble the batters initially. The spinners would have their say later in the game where the surface may produce some added turn. However, the kind of impact that the batters would have on the surface is way too overwhelming to be countered by the limited support that the bowlers would get. The last game played in the stadium would witness the Chennai Super Kings wreaking havoc with a total of 208 on the cards.
