Batting brilliance propels India to dominant T20I series win against South Africa
A clinical show from Team India saw them romp past South Africa with consummate ease, clinching the T20I series by a 3-1 margin. A phenomenal batting display set the tone perfectly as the duo of Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya spearheaded the charge with the bat. Despite earlier bumps, the Indian bowlers managed to reel the visitors in time, securing a fine win in Ahmedabad.
Winning the toss, South Africa opted to bowl first. A rock-solid start from the Indian openers got the wheels in motion for the hosts. Abhishek Sharma (34) and Sanju Samson (37) put up an opening stand of 63 runs for the opening pair before South Africa could finally apply the brakes.
An incoming Tilak Varma (73) upped the ante for the visitors as India ushered in the belligerence. Despite losing a couple of quick wickets in the form of Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (5), India didn’t lose their grip on the game. Rallying back from 115/3, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma unleashed their inner beasts, propelling the hosts to mind-numbing brilliance.
Pandya fired 63 from just 25 balls, rocking five fours and five sixes while Varma’s blitzkrieg featured 10 fours and a six. The duo put up a stand of 105 runs for the fourth wicket as India finished at 231/5 from their allotment of 20 overs. Shivam Dube stayed unbeaten for 10 off 3, smashing a four and a six.
South Africa started on a note of fury as Quinton de Kock (65) fired on all cylinders. Despite de Kock’s early show of aggression, the introduction of the spinners by SKY was what derailed the visitors’ plans. Chakravarthy broke the opening stand by claiming Reeza Hendricks (13) while also forcing a slowdown in the scoring rate.
Discerning the leaping asking rate, QDK decided to switch gears and looked in menacing nick until India’s pace ace, Jasprit Bumrah got the better of him. The fall of QKD precipitated a sudden change in momentum. South Africa went crumbling from 122/2 to 177/8, allowing India to establish their grip over the game. Completing the formalities, India managed to restrict the visitors to 201/8.
Varun Chakravarthy turned things around phenomenally to emerge as the pick of the lot with figures of 4/53. He had support from Jasprit Bumrah, whose miserly outing of 2/17 left the visitors with much to desire for. India secured a 30-run win against South Africa, clinching the T20I series by 3-1 after their triumph in the ODIs as well. Hardik Pandya won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance while CV Varun bagged the Player of the Series award for his haul of 10 wickets in the series.
