Australia vs India: Virat Kohli on the brink of breaking Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar's record

India captain Virat Kohli is always in the thick of the action. There is no denying this fact. And rightly so. Be it the subcontinent or the SENA countries, he has scripted innumerable records,  taming every bowling attack he has faced.

Milestones and Virat Kohli seem to have become synonymous. As he steps onto the field tomorrow in the landmark pink-ball Test match, the talismanic batsman will be on the cusp of breaking two prominent records currently held by Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar.

Adelaide affair - Captain Kohli chasing Brian Lara's record

The West Indies legend Brian Lara holds the record of most runs scored at the Adelaide Oval by a visiting player. Lara, with 610 runs to his name, leads the batting chart.

During a media interaction in 2018-19 Border Gavaskar, Virat Kohli didn't hide the fact that Adelaide Oval is his favourite hunting ground outside the subcontinent. He has scored a total of 431 runs at an average of 71.83 at the Adelaide Oval. "I love coming to this ground, the city in general. I really enjoy the city, I don't know what the connection is, but I just feel really good here. Not to say that the performances are always guaranteed in a certain place but yes, coming to Adelaide I feel different from places that I have gone in the world and that's been the case," - Kohli was then quoted as saying to Australian media.

The India skipper needs 179 runs to break the record currently held by Brian Lara.

Virat Kohli on the verge of breaking Sachin Tendulkar's tally of centuries against Australia

Sachin Tendulkar possesses the record of scoring the most number of centuries against the mighty Aussies in their backyard. The batting maestro has amassed 1809 runs at an average of 53.2 with 6 centuries to his name.

Kohli, on the other hand, has also slammed 6 tons Down Under against Australia. In the 12 matches he has played in Australia, the skipper has an aggregate of 1,274 runs at a staggering average of 55.39. If the 32-year-old manages to go past the three-figure mark in any of the two innings at the Adelaide Oval, he would overtake his batting idol Sachin Tendulkar to claim the No.1 spot.
