As a team we have learnt a lot – Harmanpreet Kaur on India-W’s series defeat against Australia
An onerous month came to an end for the Women in Blue as Australia clinched a 7-wicket win in the 3rd T20I, inflicting a series loss on the hosts. Braving a surface which had its own bag of tricks, the Indian batters failed to post an imposing showdown. Chasing 148, Australia made quick work of the total as they went on to win the final T20I and clinch the series win comprehensively.
Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her happiness with the way the Indian women’s cricket team performed and despite a defeat in the series, she was elated to see how her teammates put up the fight against a strong Australian unit.
Talking at the post-match presentation, Kaur said, “The last one month we played very good cricket. They played white-ball cricket better than us. Red-ball cricket we know we can take our time but white-ball cricket we need to be on our toes. As a team we have learnt a lot.”
She further added, “Fielding is something we were not upto the mark and after this break we will work on our fitness and fielding and come back stronger. Whenever they (Youngsters) are getting the opportunity, they are giving their 100 percent, the combination and unity plays a big role.”
The Indian skipper concluded by saying, “We always give them a fight, we are not going to give them anything easily, that is something I am proud about my team. A lot to learn from them (Australia) as well.”
