Anya Shrubsole underlines RCB’s bowling strength and Indian core as key components
As the latest edition of the WPL auction came to an end, RCB made some big signings ahead of the upcoming season. This was the first auction for RCB’s assistant coach, Anya Shrubsole, and at the end of the auction, she joined Mayanti Langer for a quick chat where she summed up the franchise's buys on the latest episode of RCB Bold Diaries.
Shedding light on her auction experience, Anya Shrubsole said, “I really enjoyed it. It's obviously good to kind of see and try and work out what other teams are doing and sometimes I think we sat there a few times a bit bewildered, but it was really enjoyable. You kind of see all the tactics play out and all of that sort of stuff.”
Talking about RCB’s latest acquisitions in the bowling department, Shrubsole said, “That's one of the things we wanted coming in and one thing that we wanted was options with the ball and we feel like we've got that with the seamers especially. But we've also got some really good options with spin as well. So we've come out of it really really happy with where we are. I think most of it went to plan. Not everything gets there. Some people you have to kind of let go. But yeah, we're really happy.”
She also underlined the presence of some big power hitters in the mix, stating, “Some real power in that middle order and at the top order as well. Let's not forget about Smriti. Smriti was really keen to have a really good strong core of Indian players as well and we feel like we've done that. With Arundhati Reddy, with Pooja, with Radha Yadav, we’ve got a strong core of Indian players as well. So in a good place.”
Anya concluded by saying, “I do think with tournaments, my experience of tournaments like this, you're obviously bringing a team together at short notice and hoping that they gel. So, when you can get players that are such good friends already that get on really well, but are also brilliant cricketers, I think it means when we all get together back at the end of December, start of January, hopefully everyone gels real fast.”
