Any decision on the IPL will be in the best interest of our country: Rajeev Shukla
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still hopeful that they will conduct the IPL in the September-November period. However, the fate of the IPL hangs in the balance as there is no clarity from the ICC so far regarding the T20 World Cup.
The only way IPL can be held during that time period is by postponing the T20 World Cup, which is scheduled for later this year. On 10 June, the ICC board members gathered for a second meeting via teleconference. After the meeting, it was announced that the global cricket board had agreed to wait until July. The reason for deferring the hearing is that the board required some more time to get a better understanding of the situation before taking a final call on the future of the T20 Mega Event.
Speaking to ANI, former IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla talked about how the BCCI and IPL Governing Council are constantly monitoring the situation in the nation and would take a “proper decision.”
“As far as IPL is concerned, they are keeping an eye on this and will take a proper decision on it. We have to see the benefit of our country, whatever would be in the interest of our country and cricket. They will take a proper step, there is no worry,” Rajeev Shukla said.
As per reports, the BCCI has spoken to all the franchises, media partners and other stakeholders of IPL and decided to draw a tentative window to host the tournament from 26 September to 8 November.
The former IPL boss concluded by stating, “They will take a good decision while keeping in mind everything. I don't think that we should comment on anything before the decision.”
