BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy which is slated to start from 19th February. India opted to include Jasprit Bumrah in the squad, despite the pacer yet to fully recover from a back spasm that he copped during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Talking in the press conference, India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar gave an update about Bumrah's fitness. Agarkar made it clear that the Indian quick has been asked to take rest and will be missing out at least the first two ODIs in the England series. Moreover, BCCI will be very closely monitoring his progress before incorporating him into the playing XI.

Agarkar said, "Bumrah has been told to off-load for five weeks after and he won't be available for the first two ODIs against England. We are waiting on his fitness and will know his status in early February from the medical team. We'll probably find out a bit more around that time, what exactly, and with regards to what his medical condition is, I'm sure BCCI might just put something out, from the physio itself."

However Agarkar didn't clarify what the exact injury is, as he said, "It's better to come from the medical department than me trying to explain what exactly is wrong with him, but that's the time frame that we've been told, and hopefully it's okay after that, yeah, but we are very hopeful."
