Acceptance is everything – Shafali Verma on her match-winning 69* against Sri Lanka
India pocketed a comfortable win against Sri Lanka as Shafali Verma led the charge with the bat. After missing out on a big knock in the first T20I, Verma played her signature aggressive knock, blasting an unbeaten 69 to help India cross the finish line without breaking a sweat in Vizag.
Verma clubbed 11 fours and a six, striking at a rate of 202.94. She also bagged the Player of the Match award for her stellar show with the bat. Talking at the post-match presentation, she opened up on the overall conditions while underlining her train of thoughts during the innings.
Highlighting the conditions, Verma said, “The ball was holding a bit at the start, so I tried to play along the ground and take singles. The coach also told me how to go about in such conditions. They bowled well at the start.”
Shedding light on her knock, Verma added, “It was a good knock. I kept myself calm, tried to play along the ground and the ball was coming on nicely. I know I can score runs if I play the ball on the ground. Acceptance is everything, if you accept (your weaknesses) then only you become a better cricketer.”
