The fate of the T20 World Cup looks bleak - Cricket Australia

With International travel restrictions in place due to coronavirus pandemic, cricketing activities across the world has taken a hit.

Cricket Australia chairman, Earl Eddings, said that hosting the T20 World Cup is indeed difficult, considering that travel restrictions are still in place and 16 teams will have to be facilitated.

"While it hasn't been formally called off this year, or postponed, trying to get 16 countries into Australia in the current world, where most countries are still going through COVID spiking, I think it's unrealistic, or it's going to be very, very difficult," he told reporters.

The 7th edition of the T20 World Cup is originally scheduled to begin from October 18 to November 15. Earlier this week, the International Cricket Council [ICC] stalled the decision on the fate of the T20 World Cup until next month. Earl Eddings said that Cricket Australia has already provided ICC with a range of options focused on the T20 World Cup.

"The ICC is having meetings as we speak, it's a bit of a movable feast at the moment," he added.

The newly appointed Cricket Australia Chief, Nick Hockley, expects the ICC to deliver its verdict on the tournament next month.  "We've got a fantastic local organising committee who are busy preparing for every eventuality and the decision that will come," Nick Hockley said.
