Hogg likens Virat Kohli with Ricky Ponting
Virat Kohli is in the league of the best the game has seen. Admired across the globe not just for his game but his attitude and ethics as a player and the captain, Kohli’s aura just keeps growing. There’s something in him that compels the Aussies to stand up and admire the Delhi born.
While the world keeps drawing comparisons between him and Sachin Tendulkar, Aussie spinner Brad Hogg feels Virat’s playing style is more like Ricky Ponting. Hogg was responding to a fan’s question on twitter during a Q & A session.
Hogg’s assessments of his current fab four of international cricket – Smith, Williamson, Kohli, and Babar Azam – might come as a surprise for cricket fans. That he preferred Babar Azam over Joe Root speaks volumes about the talent of Azam as well.
The 49-year-old, who has not declared his retirement from international cricket, felt that Williamson’s batting style resembled that of Sachin and Smith’s of Don Bradman. However, he was quick to add that Lara’s batting style was unique and Babar Azam has a “bit of living up to do.”
RCB and India captain Kohli is the only Asian captain to have won a Test series in Australia. Kohli’s series of success has earned him high praise from the Aussies and Hogg comparing him with Ponting shows a tectonic shift in the Aussie attitude towards the Indian players.
