Australia tour of England to begin in the 1st week of September: Reports
According to some reports in certain sections of the English media, Australia will tour England for a “bio-secure” series featuring three T20Is and as many ODIs. The tour is expected to begin on 4th September.
The Daily Telegraph reported that T20Is will kick off the tour with on September 4, 6, and 8. Following that ODIs will be held on September 10, 12, and 15.
The report also claimed that the Aussie contingent will fly in a private jet to England and all the matches will be conducted at just two venues - Southampton and Old Trafford in Manchester.
Both these venues have hotels attached to them to accommodate the two teams, match officials and broadcasters.
It’s these two grounds that are currently playing host to the England-West Indies series. These two venues will also host for three Tests and as many T20Is starting next month.
Australia will pick their team from a 26-man preliminary list of players which was named recently.
Earlier, Cricket Australia’s chief of national teams Ben Oliver had made it clear that the tour will only be decided the restrictions the players would face in England and after their return to Australia.
“Obviously the health and safety of players and staff and public health component is critical. The quarantine arrangements aren’t in place, they’re not confirmed. They obviously exist in terms of general international travel at the moment so that’s something we’re working through but it is a consideration,” Oliver had said.
Meanwhile, the BCCI will also want to keep an eye on the tour as they make a call on the Indian Premier League. And according to reports, the IPL might start by the end of September.
