100-ball tournament should be postponed, feels Moeen Ali
England and Royal Challengers Bangalore all-rounder Moeen Ali feels The Hundred – the 100-ball tournament – should be postponed as the world is going through a pandemic.
The ECB expects that the 100-ball tournament has the potential to match the popularity of the Indian Premier League and Australia’s Big Bash League.
Moeen thinks that the inaugural edition of the flagship tournament should be played when there are no such problems around. Talking to BBC.co.uk, Moeen said, "It makes sense that way. It is such a big deal for us in this country and we want it to be played when everything is right and there are no problems around the world."
Moeen thinks that England’s world cup victory last year had made the environment conducive for the launch of such a tournament but the ongoing pandemic is going to make it harder.
However, the RCB all-rounder added that the waiting game can be put to good use by making the tournament even bigger.
"If we can get other international players who were not available this year, it can make The Hundred even stronger for next year and we can attract a new audience to come and watch cricket."
Earlier this week, speaking to the BBC, ECB chief Tom Harrison had opined, “The Hundred was envisaged as being a tournament that enabled us to widen the audience for the game. With an in-stadia environment, with international players, it's going to be very, very difficult.”
