We want to be as aggressive as we can – Mo Bobat opens up on the mindset in the RCB camp

It’s a well known fact that a good IPL season doesn’t start from the first match on the yard but it stems all the way back to the auction table. A team that has a good auction eventually checkmates their way to the promised land. In the ongoing season where RCB maintained a steady dose of domination, winning nine of their 14 games in the group stages while another got washed away, the success does go back to the time of the auction when Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s assembled squad showed signs of promise.

Talking in RCB's Journey to the Finale, Episode 1: The Foundation, RCB’s Director of cricket, Mo Bobat, opened up on the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025 and how it impacted the season. He also opened up on the mindset that RCB played with in the season and the crucial difference it has made.

Bobat said, “Nobody gets everything they want at an auction. It's pretty much impossible. But I think we got predominantly what we wanted in terms of playing personnel. But more importantly, with the actual shape of the team and the vision of that team that Andy and I spent so much time thinking about and talking about, we pretty much nailed that. And that's probably been the satisfying thing this season – that you get to see that come to life on the field."

Shedding light on the mindset of the team, Bobat said, “I think we're trying to play in a way that's quite similar to the way we played the second half of last season. We want to be as aggressive as we can with the bat. We want to have a real wicket-taking approach with the ball. We want to be fighters on the field and play really aggressive cricket. We also want to be the type of team that's resilient and can deal with pressure and the challenges that we're faced with."
