Smriti Mandhana becomes fastest women's cricketer to score 10,000 international runs
In an incredible display of firepower, Smriti Mandhana flexed her batting muscles to help India outplay Sri Lanka in the fourth T20I. After a handful of false starts in the series, Mandhana returned to her very best, smashing 80 off just 48 balls, propelling India to a formidable position. She had fine support from her opening partner, Shafali Verma who looked in excellent control as well.
En route to her 80, Mandhana entered an extremely elite club of women cricketers, racking up the herculean feat of 10,000 international runs. She became only the fourth-ever women's cricketer to get to the milestone, and the only Indian among them.
Starting her innings 27 runs short of the mark, Smriti hunkered down to business from ball one itself. She brought up the feat against Nimasha Meepage in the seventh over, steering one of those fuller deliveries to long-on. With that single scored, Mandhana walked into a clique comprising the likes of her former national team compatriot, Mithali Raj, New Zealand’s Suzie Bates and England’s Charlotte Edwards.
With 5322 runs in WODIs, 4022 runs in WT20Is and 629 runs from the seven Test matches that she has played until now, Mandhana achieved this dreamy feat in just 280 international appearances, 11 quicker than Mithali Raj.
2025 continues to be a phenomenal year for Smriti Mandhana, as she helped India to lift their maiden ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Her excellent exploits with the bat in her hand has been one of the key elements of India’s success in the ongoing calendar year and with Mandhana already a part of the 10,000 club, she might very well be eyeing to surpass Mithali Raj’s overall international tally.
