RCB went through a roller-coaster ride in the 2024 WPL season that eventually saw them reaching the grand finale where the Smriti Mandhana-led side clinched the title. En route to the summit clash, if there was one match that defined the team’s indomitable spirit, it was the thriller against Delhi Capitals.

Richa Ghosh played an unforgettable knock of 51 from just 29 balls, propelling the Queens to what could have been an unbelievable win. Much to the woes of the Royal Challengers, Richa fell agonizingly short of what could have been a humdinger turnaround. She got run-out on the last ball as DC walked away with the bragging rights and a one-run win.

Talking on the latest episode of the Big Basket presents RCB Podcast: Bold & Beyond, Richa Ghosh opened up on the game that would be remembered by the RCB fans for a long time. She narrated the entire game and the raw emotions that simmered in and outside the field throughout the chase.

Richa said, “When I was sitting outside, I saw the score, we needed X runs from Y balls, I thought that we could do it. I can take the team to the finishing line. When I went inside, I was only thinking that I will have to help my team win in whatever way possible. So that was going on in my mind. I could follow it.”

She further added, “I also got good support from my team. When it went to the last over, the situation was that we needed 17 runs and I believed that we could do it. It was just a matter of a couple of boundaries. I managed a six but the last four we needed, I think it was six needed off the last two balls which boiled down to 2 off the final ball, my intention was to hit a boundary basically because that is how you win matches.”

Richa concluded by saying, “I tried doing that only. I think we ran for the first run and the second run was not possible because the ball went into the hands of the point fielder. Sadly, I couldn’t tie it either for my team because I got run out while trying to steal the first run itself because the ball went straight to the fielder and it was a direct hit. We all got very emotional. We got a good chance to finish well but it didn’t happen. It happens in the game.”
