The inclusion of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the Indian side for the upcoming New Zealand series has been one of the most discussed points across the entire cricketing fabric. Kumar’s performance in the latest iteration of the Indian Premier League was one that grabbed the eyeballs for all the right reasons.

India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak decoded the possible rationale behind Bhuvneshwar Kumar being included to the side. Talking in the pre-match presser ahead of India’s clash against West Indies, Kotak highlighted Bhuvneshwar’s experience as the key factor in him getting a call-up for the national side.

Kotak said, “One thing obviously is it's the selectors' choice. But still I can give you an answer about what I think: in England, I also personally felt - with Bumrah not being around and all - the new bowlers, the young bowlers were playing, and we all know that you can't beat experience. They are also good but at some stage you need experience. So I'm just thinking that might be one reason."

Pointing out how Kumar’s swinging capabilities gives India an added edge over the Kiwi conditions, Kotak added, “Selectors must have thought that for New Zealand conditions, we need some experience. That's why they must have picked him. That's what I can think of."
