Virat's mindset was very special – Bhuvneshwar Kumar on how India turned the overseas tide in Test cricket

Team India went through a bumpy transition when Virat Kohli took over the reins of the Test captaincy Down Under. Things didn’t immediately improve but there was a paradigm shift in their body language under Kohli’s reign. Soon enough, from the initial wobbles to conquering Australia in their backyard, Kohli was at the helm of a fearsome pace attack that left the opposition's batters struggling.

Talking on his story as part of an RCB Bold Diaries feature story, Bhuvneshwar pointed out how Virat Kohli’s aggressive attitude shifted India’s approach in the longest format of the game. Not only did India improve their numbers at home, but in overseas conditions such as SENA, the Kohli-led unit was threatening, which was no mean feat for a skipper.

Speaking on the topic, Bhuvneshwar Kumar said, “I will give all credit to Virat Kohli for Team India’s transformation in Test cricket and the fast-bowling revolution. He brought in that mindset of winning everywhere — not just going with the flow. That mindset of Virat was very special.”

A burning testimony to Virat’s never-give-up attitude saw India defending a modest total in the Home of Cricket. Trying to shoot down 272 runs, England wilted for a mere 120 despite the presence of towering names like Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Rory Burns, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran.
