Virat is an example - Ian Bishop on what defines the King's royalty on and off the pitch

Virat Kohli continues to be an inspiration for a generation of cricketers. Whether it's his playing style or the way he keeps reinventing himself, there's something simply marvellous about it.

One of cricket's greatest voices, Ian Bishop has always been a massive admirer of the King, and on the latest episode of Big Basket presents RCB Podcast, he broke down what sets the former India and RCB captain apart from the rest.

In conversation with Mayanti Langer on the podcast, Bishop said, "Virat is an example, and very hard to get out of what we have learned all along red ball cricket and what matters in the longest form of batting for a long time, and getting a five-wicket haul. A maiden over doesn't hold the same resonance in, let's say, a test match as it would do in a T20 game, but it has great gravitas."

Explaining how Virat still manages to add more flair to his repertoire, Bishy added, "And for Virat to continuously learn, to add new skills, take the time out to add new skills. He said that after he scored the hundred against KKR, I think, he scored two naughts, and he went back into the nets because he felt he needed to rebuild something. And that is the ethos of the last two years, as he spoke to, and he said, I needed to do some things differently and rebuild."

Bishop concluded by stating, "At that age in the 30s, it's a lesson to me that it's never too late to learn. And all those little things I keep picking up. And when he said those things, I was getting calls from family and messages from the UK, from Australia. Wow. What he had said is a lesson to us all that is helping so many people to transcend life, not just cricket."
