Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah return to Test side as BCCI announce squad for New Zealand series

As India gear up for a mega-challenge against New Zealand in their den, BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming series with two major inclusions for the Test side: Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah have been added to the Test squad.

Bumrah will not be part of the ODI squad but will return to lead the attack in the Tests, with the first contest slated for November 19th in Wellington. He hasn’t been part of a Test match since November 2025.

Shubman Gill will lead the Test side, while KL Rahul will be his deputy. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel and Sai Sudharsan will further bolster the batting lineup, although Pant’s inclusion is subject to fitness clearance.

Apart from Bumrah, India’s pace department will include Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna while a seasoned Kuldeep Yadav will lead the Indian spin attack.

The ODI series will see Shubman Gill leading the ranks for the first three games while Shreyas Iyer will be taking over the reins in the last two contests of the series.

Gill, Rahul and Kamboj will only be a part of the first three ODIs before they get ready to be a part of the upcoming Tests against the Kiwis. Kumar Kushagra, who has been in great shape this year, and Auqib Nabi, who has been in splendid touch across the last two seasons of domestic cricket, will be included for the fourth and fifth ODIs.
