Richa Ghosh lights up Trivandrum with boundary-hitting show

The Indian batters put on a show in Trivandrum, totting up a record-breaking 221 in the fourth T20I against Sri Lanka.

Richa Ghosh played a major hand in India’s push for the massive total, smashing a 16-ball 40*, a knock in which she hit four fours and three sixes, finishing with a sensational strike rate of 250.

Ghosh walked out to bat when Shafali Verma was dismissed, and with just four overs remaining in the innings, the hard-hitting wicket-keeper wasted no time at all.

The very second ball that she faced raced away to the fence after Nimasha Meepage decided to toss one up, teasing Richa with the invitation to go down the track.

This was just the beginning of something monumental as Richa targeted Meepage without any hesitation whatsoever. She smashed her for two consecutive fours in the 17th over, clearly insinuating the accelerated rampage that was to come in the upcoming overs.

Kavisha Dilhari, who had an extremely ordinary day in office, found herself at the receiving end of Richa’s carnage.

Coming to bowl the 18th over, Ghosh smoked her for 22 runs. The third ball of the over was in the slot and Richa, opening up her stance, clobbered her over long-on for a maximum.

The following ball was belted down the ground by Richa as Kavisha decided to toss it up once again, incurring wrath. A change of line didn’t really work wonders for Kavisha as the following delivery raced through the covers despite being pitched short and outside off.

Another floater outside the off-stump from Kavisha received a similar treatment like the other three as Richa deposited that over the bowler’s head across the fence.

In fact, such was her brilliance that Smriti Mandhana, her skipper at RCB, said “She has really matured as a batter. She has come in as a child prodigy but she is understanding her game and the situation. She recognises which bowler to hit and the areas to hit. She knows which pockets to target. She is ready to adapt and change.”
