RCB Podcast: Mo Bobat reveals the blueprint behind RCB’s first-ever IPL trophy

As RCB stormed their way to ultimate glory in IPL 2025, one man was at the heart of the planning and execution - Mo Bobat. From scouting the right talent to shaping a winning team, RCB’s Director of Cricket left no stone unturned in his pursuit of the franchise’s first title.

Speaking on the latest episode of Big Basket presents RCB Podcast: Bold & Beyond, Bobat shared insights into the meticulous preparation that powered RCB’s campaign - from pre-auction strategy to the big wins on the field.

On the planning process, Bobat said, “We had a vision at the back end of last season of how we wanted to play. That template became the basis for retention, release decisions, auction preparation, player preparation, and our tactics going into games.”

He explained how the team constantly adapted their approach to changing conditions and quipped, “We review against that template. We've adapted it slightly because you've got to stay close to the action and for example pitches and surfaces. This year feels slightly different to last year. So you can't just think you can play last year's competition this year. So you got to keep iterating that vision and that template. Then you get to a point where players are that clear on their roles, they're that confident in their roles that they're bringing it to life without you having to.”

Two games stood out for Bobat this season, on which he added, “And look a couple of games stand out specifically for us this year and we played a lot of cricket across the competition but the game at CSK and the game at Mumbai in particular stand out for me because it was almost like the template coming to life. We lost a few wickets but every wicket the guys kept throwing punches back.”

Bobat further explained, “We bowled with great skill throughout the game. We just showed high quality and high levels of bravery and that was really satisfying when a vision that you have sort of a year before, starts to come to life on the field with a load of other people doing it.”

He concluded by saying, “It feels really really rewarding. So that's where I go back to the process. You asked this question by referencing what I said last year about outcome and process. If you nail your processes, you must have enough conviction that success becomes inevitable. If you just hunt winning a game or a trophy, it becomes pressure that you don’t need."
