No team’s ever won three in a row – Mo Bobat lays out breadcrumbs for IPL 2027
With IPL 2026 coming to an end and RCB putting up a clinical show to win two titles on the trot, the celebrations that followed would not have been completed without one man’s dressing room chat and that was RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat. The man who very silently arranged the pieces for every single game alongside Andy Flower, and the results were evident for everyone to see.
Talking in the dressing room chat after RCB’s win against Gujarat Titans in the all-important final, Bobat opened up on the overall season for RCB. He highlighted how the team was high in confidence while expressing how he was proud of the entire unit.
Bobat said, “The first thing I said was to remind you all of how special last year was. Winning that first trophy last year was a major deal for the franchise, we all know that. And I think we've probably all felt a different level of confidence this year, which is a great sign. Last year was special, but I said it was more special back-to-back. So well done, guys, you should be incredibly proud of that. We are amongst, you know, other elite company now.”
Expressing how proud the entire team should be of their performance, Bobat added, “You know, we know it's the third time that's ever happened. And you guys as a playing group, like Andy said, you deserve to be talked about amongst that level of company. You do. There's a reason it's not happened many times before. It's not easy to do. So you guys deserve a lot of credit for that. You should all be incredibly proud.”
Underlining Andy Flower’s observations, stating, “As Andy's alluded to, it takes a lot of skill, it takes a lot of character, it takes a lot of togetherness. And the word that Andy focused on there, which I think is absolutely key, probably the bit that I'm most proud of when I watch you guys play, is bravery. The number of times this season where Andy and I, we obviously sit next to each other in the dugout, and we just look at each other and go, what a privilege to watch this.”
Shedding light on the individual talent, Bobat added, “It could be like Virat just smashing one over cover on the up. I don't know, like Salty pulling one when he's just rocked back and hardly moved. Rajat just playing the most ridiculous shot that anyone's ever even conceived of, you know, like TD banging out of the ground, or Jitesh doing something really innovative.”
Underscoring the bowling unit, Bobat stated, “And then with the ball itself, Hoff and Bhuvi leading the attack. Bhuvi, different class this year, and bowled with a confidence. KP again, standing up, doing what you do, just as we talked about. And then equally, the other guys that contributed, Razsikh, brilliant, great season for us, stood till the end. Sheppy, now probably going to forget somebody if I do it, but so many moments where Andy and I just look at each other and go, what a privilege, what a privilege to be sat in the dugout working with these guys.”
Shedding light on the goal for the next season, Bobat added, “If I think back to the end of last season, one of the things that Andy and I did, we spoke to all the staff first and said to everybody that if we're going to do this back-to-back that we've kind of started to talk about, we all have to come back better to improve. We have to be better players, better staff members than we were last year, and we have to empty the tank again. We have to commit exactly the same. We all know the IPL is brutal. Like, when you finish the IPL, you're done. You need a break. So it's brutal. But the best thing about it is everyone's done that. Everyone's come back better. Everyone's emptied the tank. Everybody's given their all.”
He further added, “And like Andy said, that's all that we can ever ask. And the quality of the changing room is that good that if everyone empties the tank and gives their all, we know that success is always to come. So thank you for that. A lot of environments say that the sign of a really good culture is the attitude of those who don't take the field. So for those of you who haven't played this year, thanks for everything you've contributed. Thanks for the support, willing to bring us on, running all the DK's messages on. Whatever they might be, we really appreciate it. And it's a great sign of the culture and the environment that we've built here, the fact that you guys commit what you do.”
He concluded with everyone’s now-favourite line, stating, “No team’s ever won three in a row…”
