No one’s to going to rest on their laurels – Ravi Shastri on India’s extensive talent pool

The IPL has undoubtedly contributed a rich talent pool to Indian cricket, one that only kept getting better with prodigious talents having to also prove themselves at the domestic circuit.

Talking to Brad Haddin and Adam Peacock on the Willow Talk Podcast, Ravi Shastri opened up about the extensive talent pool that India has right now. He also focused on the fact that the availability of so many talented players in the same space means only one thing - everyone needs to fight for their spot in the national team.

Shastri said, “For a Jaiswal or a Shreyas Iyer not to be able to get into a T20 side, that explains everything. I mean, they fully walk into a lot of sides around the world but can’t make it here. So there’s talent, there’s competition, and that’s why, in a way, it’s good. It’s a good headache to have as a coach or as the team management or the selector because no one's going to rest on their laurels. They realize that there’s enough guys at the back there pushing them. There’s enough bench strength.”
