My focus was to bowl in the right areas – Manav Suthar after impressive Test debut
Manav Suthar truly arrived on the international circuit with a fantastic start to his Test career. Suthar impressed with the bat and was brilliant with the ball as India finished the second day of the Test on a high. Suthar concluded the day with figures of 3/21 as Afghanistan was reduced to 113/5.
Suthar claimed the crucial scalps of Abdul Malik, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Afsar Zazai as Afghanistan lost the cream of their batting by the end of the second day’s play. Talking in an interview at the end of day’s play, Suthar opened up on his blue print while highlighting how he used his strength on his Test debut.
Highlighting his plan, Suthar said, “My focus was to bowl in the right areas and back my strengths. There was help from the surface, so my idea was to get the landing right.”
Revealing when he got to know about his debut, Suthar added, “Got to know this morning when I came to the ground about my Test debut. I was prepared last evening [because there was a chance of debut].”
Shedding light on his strength, Suthar said, “My strength is to turn the ball. So that is what I tried to do. I wanted to land in consistent areas, that was my focus. Had dreamt of playing for India when I started playing Ranji Trophy and domestic cricket.”
He concluded by sharing a word about playing alongside Shubman Gill for a while now, stating, “We have been playing together. So he also knows my strengths and keeps telling me about lines and lengths."
