It's probably been a journey of way more downs than ups – Nadine de Klerk

Nadine de Klerk’s journey in cricket has been nothing short of wondrous. Drifting in and out of the South African side, de Klerk managed to hang in there. And finally, she started finding her rhythm in the last couple of years with 2025 providing her the quantum leap that she was after for an eternity. De Klerk has a tattoo on her arm that is reflective of the overall cricketing journey that she has been a part of.

Talking with Mayanti Langer on Big Basket presents RCB Podcast, de Klerk opened up on her cricketing odyssey. Not only did she speak about the highs, but her detailed words on the troughs and crests of the game was equally captivating.

Nadine said, “I do, actually. I guess my cricketing journey in general, like, I spoke to someone the other day and I was like, I've played international cricket for nine years and it doesn't feel like it. It's probably been a journey of way more downs than ups, really. And it took me a really long time to try and figure out how I want to go about it and who I want to be as a cricketer and obviously as a teammate as well.”

Stating further, she said, “And yeah, like I said, I guess that failure is part of the journey. If it's not for all those failures, you probably won't end up where you're supposed to. So, yeah, I really try and see it as a lesson every time you do fall short or I don't really want to call it a failure because I don't think it is. I really do think it's just a lesson to be learned and to really make you better for the next opportunity that comes your way.”
