India suffer tough defeat in Nottingham to hand England 2-0 series lead

Team India suffered their biggest loss in T20I cricket history as England ran away with their second win on the bounce as part of the five-match series.

Nottingham witnessed India buckling under the pump as their batters collapsed beyond an incomprehensible degree. India did get a decent start with the ball and with the bat too but the momentum was lost all too soon.

On winning the toss, India opted to bowl first. Despite a decent start by the Indian bowlers in the first few overs, Phil Salt (70) and Jos Buttler (36) wasted no time in scoring heavily. The opening pair added 43 runs for the opening stand before Prince Yadav struck on his very first ball to remove the latter. Harry Brook (16) looked good for his start but Prince struck for a second time to bring India back to the game.

Harshit Rana dealt a double whammy in a while, removing Jacob Bethell (13) and Tom Banton (0) in quick succession. However, that was the last time that India were in control. An incoming Sam Curran (41*) flipped the equation and the visitors lost their foothold completely. By the time Axar Patel could get Phil Salt, the damage was already done.

England totted up 201/7 at the end of 20 overs. The only silver-lining for Team India was Prince Yadav, who registered figures of 2/30 from his allotment of four overs. Harshit Rana did register a brace but that wasn’t enough for India to get hold of things.

India came out firing on all cylinders as Abhishek Sharma (10), Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (13) and Ishan Kishan (13) did get starts. Unfortunately, none of them could convert the start into something consequential. The rest of the Indian batting apart from Axar Patel (10) couldn’t even get into double figures and India were bundled out for 76 from just 11.4 overs.

England secured a win by 125 runs, with Jofra Archer securing the Player of the Match award for his figures of 3/29.
