India square off against New Zealand for series opener in Christchurch
India is all set to begin one of their most formidable challenges in the ongoing year as they lock horns with New Zealand for the opener in what is going to be a prolonged multi-format series. Christchurch will be playing host to an intriguing clash between two powerhouses, probing their strengths in challenging conditions.
The Men in Blue will be without two of their key players in Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. Bumrah has been rested to prepare for the upcoming Test series while Pandya’s new injury has kept him away from the international scene for a while.
Apart from the two absentees, another one of the key factors that India will be looking forward to brave their way through is the jetlag which will be a constant companion for the Men in Blue due to their intense travel in recent times.
The last time, New Zealand visited India, things went downtown for the Men in Blue. That is one of the reasons why India will have added incentive to go all guns in, irrespective of the challenges that they will be up against. However, New Zealand also comes in with almost full strength which will be intensifying the challenge for the Men in Blue.
Venue Watch:
It will be fairly nippy in Christchurch while the surface will have intense bounce and swing. One can expect the new ball bowlers to make waves early on and even when the lacquer wears on, it won’t be too easy for the batters to make merry. However, in the second half of the contest, with the onset of dew, one can expect batting to be relatively easier.
