India qualify for Asian Games semi-final after washout in quarter-final against Afghanistan

India made it through to the semi-finals of Asian Games men’s tournament after rain played spoilsport in Nisshin, forcing the quarter-final to be called off without even the toss happening.

As a result of having a higher seeding, India made it to the last four at Afghanistan’s expense. The Men in Blue will be facing the winner of Tuesday’s quarter-final between Sri Lanka and Nepal.

India are one of the four seeded teams alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the four countries which qualified directly for the quarter-finals. Sri Lanka will also be advancing to the semis if their match against Nepal gets washed out.

Earlier on Monday, Pakistan booked their berth in the semis after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was also called off to interminable downpour.

Rain continues to be a major killjoy for Afghanistan as this is their second consecutive Asian Games Men’s campaign with a washout affecting their game against India. They bagged the silver medal in Hangzhou in 2023 as the summit clash had to be stopped after 18.2 overs were bowled.
