India eye series triumph as England fight for survival in Cardiff

After a commanding win in the ODI series opener, India will once again be hopeful of recreating their clinical dominance in Cardiff.

The Men in Blue will be eager to end their recent rut with a series win against England, which would bring them much-needed relief.

Shubman Gill played an instrumental knock in the series opener before being injured, and whether he will be part of the playing XI will only be decided closer to the game, depending on his fitness.

Indian fans, meanwhile, will once again be pinning their hopes on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who failed to get going in the series opener.

England will be recalibrating their batting unit after the debacle in Birmingham. Joe Root will continue to command the top order, while the hosts will be hopeful of Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell returning to form with the bat. The Three Lions will also be taking a close look at their bowling unit, which was impressive only in patches.

Despite the history between the two sides, one can expect a thriller of the highest order, especially given the sheer level of talent on show whenever these two outfits collide.

Venue Watch:

The average first-innings score in Cardiff ranges from 240-260, suggesting the bowlers will have a role to play. Fast bowlers can expect plenty of seam and swing early on, while turn is likely to come into play in the latter half of the innings. The pitch offers good carry for the most part, though there have also been instances of the ball gripping the surface, demanding extra concentration from the batters.
