He wants to keep winning - Mo Bobat on Virat Kohli’s mindset

Virat Kohli has been a beacon of brilliance for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru over the years. With 8661 runs from 267 matches and an average of 39.55, Kohli has rewritten all records and has transcended himself to a legendary tier. Last year, all of it came to fruition when RCB lifted the IPL trophy for the first time, completing a dream cycle for the former Royal Challengers skipper.

Talking on the teaser of Big Basket presents RCB Podcast, RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, opened up on how squad was structured to complement Virat and his “elite mindset”.

Bobat said, “I guess coming back to Virat, obviously, I think he'll forever be the icon and the hero of this team. I don't think that's going to go away. And he deserves that. His track record is incredible. I remember at one-point last season seeing his stats and I think he got to however many runs it was, was it 9,000 runs or whatever? 9,000 runs in IPL cricket. 18 years where he's played consistently well. That's 500 runs a season. Like, it's actually ridiculous.”

He further added, “Some players would be happy with like 500 runs a season. He averages 500 runs a season for 18 years. It's actually ridiculous. So you can't ignore that. But the best thing Andy and I can do for him is give him a championship-winning team. And you know, I need him certainly to stay at that career where he wants to keep winning things. So it didn't take much buy-in from other people. He wants the players around him because he wants to win. He's a winner.”
