Devdutt Padikkal played the role of the architect-in-chief as Karnataka pulled off a run-chase for the ages in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, hunting down a daunting 412-run target to beat Jharkhand by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground in Ahmedabad.
Padikkal produced a commanding 147 off 118 deliveries, laced with 10 fours and seven sixes, ensuring Karnataka had the upper hand right throughout.

The young southpaw’s century overshadowed the efforts of Jharkhand skipper Ishan Kishan, who struck 125 runs off 39 balls in a game that manifested as a run-fest right from the outset.

Padikkal found an ideal partner early in Mayank Agarwal, who flew out of the blocks with 54 off 34 balls as Karnataka built a platform that kept the chase alive deep into the innings.

Even after Padikkal’s dismissal in the 41st over, the momentum he created proved decisive. Karnataka eventually finished the job, completing the record chase in 47.3 overs to seal the win and Padikkal was rightfully handed the Player of the Match award.
